“When a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.”

— Alexander Den Heijer

Empowerment Lab is the first of its kind after school community center which matches youth with learning and attention issues (mentees) with high school and college aged young adults (mentors) with similar learning profiles. The goal of Empowerment Lab is to empower youth by raising self-esteem, teaching self-advocacy skills, and building peer relationships. This is done through participation in recreational activities, such as the arts, music, games, or wherever their passion leads them. Here they will find their community.

Having a mentor who believes in you and who has been in your shoes goes a long way toward building self-esteem.

What We Do

Empowerment Lab uses a social-emotional learning curriculum and recreational activities to empower middle school and high school aged youth with diagnosed learning differences, such as dyslexia, ADHD, executive function weaknesses, and other learning and attention issues.
